Bank of Valletta’s automated teller machines have been upgraded to enable customers to enter or confirm their mobile phone number to allow the bank to send notifications by text message.

Customers, who will receive the notifications at no charge, will have more information about their transactions when using electronic delivery channels.

The initiative is part of the bank’s efforts to deliver new services to customers through a mobile platform, following the launch of its mobile banking and payments app for smartphones earlier this year.

“By asking customers to confirm or provide us with their mobile phone number we are seeking to deliver a range of free text message notification services so that customers can track, in real time, certain transactions they make,” Ivo Camilleri, executive head, electronic banking services, explained.

Customers may also choose to receive SMS alerts for free when term accounts have matured or when a direct credit payment is received in their account. Applications for these services may be made through the bank’s 24x7service or in branches.
