Up to October this year, a total of 5,254,748 blood tests were carried out at Mater Dei Hospital, Health Minister Joseph Cassar told Nationalist MP David Agius in reply to a parliamentary question on Tuesday.

However the number did not include 8,096 tests ordered overseas by the Reference Lab.

The respective numbers compared with 5,821,998 and 17,119 for all 12 months of 2011.
