Birkirkara have concluded discussions to sign Ellinton Antonio Costa Moraes. Last night, the 24-year-old striker, known as Liliu, put pen to paper on a one-year deal with an option to extend his contract at the end of the season.

The arrival of Liliu represents a timely boost for Birkirkara and coach Paul Zammit as the Stripes have been working to strengthen their squad after losing a host of first-choice players in the close season, including four strikers – Shola Shodiya Haruna, Jhonnattann, Frank Temile and Demba Toure.

Liliu has had spells with Belgian club Westerlo Ethnikos Achna, in Cyprus, and Hapoel Ra’anana, in Israel.

Zammit is expected to include Liliu in his squad for the Super Cup match against Valletta at the National Stadium next Friday.
