Local fishermen caught 82 per cent more blue fin tuna between April and June than in the same period last year, landing a value of €648,872.
Swordfish catches increased by nine per cent, the National Statistics Office said, the value amounting to €583,827.
There was also a massive increase in the catch of shrimp, 78 per cent, while stone bass went up 8.7 per cent.
The wholesale value of all fish landings between April and June increased to €2.3 million – almost 23 per cent more than the same period in 2013.
Maltese fishermen caught 278,870 kgs – an increase of 30 per cent – of fresh fish, making up 90.6 per cent of total landings.
Fresh fish caught by Gozitan fishermen dropped by 31 per cent, making up 9.4 per cent of the total catch.
