A Bank of Valletta employee yesterday filed a judicial protest against his employer claiming that he was demoted as a result of flawed disciplinary proceedings when he was clearly not at fault.

Gaetano Falzon said he was employed as a branch custodian and, on November 29, he was demoted after he was blamed for bank losses in relation to his duties connected to the administration of safety deposit boxes.

He said that there were people on the adjudication board during the disciplinary proceedings against him that had vested interests in his demotion.

Mr Falzon said he was the scapegoat for lack of control and security and bad decision making at an executive level, which were the sole cause of the incident.

Lawyers Aaron Mifsud Bonnici and Nadine Farrugia signed the protest.
