New year is always a time for throwing parties and toasting to new beginnings and prosperous endeavours.

Gozo’s Aurora Opera House this year raises a glass with Alfredo and Violetta to Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata and its famous Brindisi (drinking song).

Just as the great master, Verdi completed Il Trovatore and La Traviata in succession, Gozo’s Aurora Opera House is to stage these two masterpieces in the same sequence. Thus, after the 2014 successful production of Il Trovatore, Aurora has announced La Traviata for October 17, 2015.

And just as Verdi went from great supreme with these two of his ever-greatest operatic works, the Aurora said it was commiting itself to higher benchmarks. With a plot that sends the audience to the heart of 1700’s Paris, La Traviata has always been considered as the ultimate operatic fashion-parade of music, drama, scenery and costumes.

These helped the opera maintain its ratings and secure performance records to this day and age.

Colin Attard will lead the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, the Aurora Opera Chorus and an international cast that is still to be announced.

La Traviata returns at the Aurora for a third time, after previous performances in 1978 and 1998.

Tickets may be obtained online: www.teatruaurora.com, or by e-mail info@leone.org.mt as of January 15, 2015.
