BONANNO. On April 22, at his residence, JOSEPH, former owner of Billy’s Car Hire, Mellieħa, aged 82, went to meet the Risen Lord, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his dearest wife Dolores, his children Stella and her husband Jimmy Muscat, Carmen and her husband Peter Baker, Lourdes and her husband Joe Schembri, Manuel and his wife Joan, Melita and her husband Godfrey Vella, Jesmond and his son Luke, David and his wife Patricia, and Kenneth and his wife Martha, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his brother and sisters, in-laws, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral cortège leaves his residence on Friday April 25 at 2.30pm for Marija Bambina parish church, Mellieħa, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 3pm, followed by interment in the family grave at Omm il-Ħniena Cemetery, Mellieħa. No flowers by request but donations to Hospice Malta, Balzan, will be appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

EARLAND. On April 19, at St James Capua Hospital, Sliema, BARBARA, passed away peacefully, aged 91. She leaves to mourn her loss her beloved husband for over 68 years, John, her daughters Elizabeth and Catherine, her grandsons Benjamin, Nicholas, Julian and Jeremy, her faithful Maltese helper, Lucy, and many other friends in Malta and the United Kingdom. Mass præsente cadavere will be said on Friday, April 25 at 3pm at St Bartholomew parish church, Għargħur, followed by interment at Ta’ Braxia Cemetery, Pietà. No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

St Monica Choir… 50 years on

St Monica Choir is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a concert in collaboration with the Malta ­­­­Philharmonic Orchestra and Mro Michael Laus.

It will be held at St Helen’s Basilica, Birkirkara on Saturday at 8pm.

The concert will feature Mozart’s Missa in C minor and Bruckner’s Te Deum and the choir will be joined by soprano Gillian Zammit, mezzo soprano Claire Massa, tenor Joseph Cornwell and bass Albert Buttigieg.

Over the years, the choir has gone from strength to strength, winning international choral awards in Malta and overseas and collaborating with local and foreign conductors and musicians.

The choir’s repertoire ranges from sacred to contemporary music, with the choir performing Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and St Matthew Passion under the baton of Hans-Jurgen Nagel, as well as Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana and Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess in collaboration with the MPO and international conductor Wayne Marshall.
