MIFSUD. On February 22, at Mater Dei Hospital, GIOVANNA of Rabat, aged 85, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her brother Joe and his wife Gina, residing in England, her nieces and nephews, Lily, Roger, Polly, Jane, Imelda, Paul, Joe, Elisabeth, Carmeline, Marie, Manuela and Leonard and their respective families, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2.30 p.m. for St Francis church, Rabat, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 3 p.m., followed by interment at Santa Margherita Cemetery, Rabat. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

VELLA. On February 21, at St Vincent de Paul residence, CARMELINA, aged 82, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her sisters Annie and Mary, wife of David Saliba, her brother Alfred, her sisters-in-law Helen, Veronica, Joyce and many relatives and friends. Mass præsente cadavere will be said tomorrow at 2.30 p.m. at St Theresa Sanctuary, Birkirkara.

VELLA. On February 22, at St Vincent de Paul residence, FRANCES of Ħamrun, aged 92, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family and comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Alfred and his wife Connie, Rose and her husband Victor, Mary and her husband Tony and Joe and his wife Doris, her grand-children, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves St Vincent de Paul residence today at 8.30 a.m. for St Cajetan parish church, Ħamrun, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 9 a.m., followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

Requiem Masses

All Masses said today at St Patrick church, Sliema, will be offered for the repose of the soul of LINA BRINCAT on the 10th anniversary of her death. The attendance of relatives and friends will be greatly appreciated.

A Mass for the repose of the soul of MARY TONNA, née Gatt, on the 11th anniversary of her death, will be said tomorrow at 6 p.m. at the Ursuline Crèche chapel, Sliema.

Traffic arrangements

The following traffic arrangements will be in place for this Sunday’s Land Rover marathon:

Traffic headed towards Floriana from Pietà will be diverted to Marsa from under the bridge on National Road.

Vehicles headed towards the Gżira and Sliema strands will be diverted to Rue D’d’Argens and Manwel Dimech Street, respectively.

Traffic from Tower Road headed towards Gżira will proceed down Tower Road on to the inner carriageway towards Gżira.

Vehicles will not be allowed to access Qui-Si-Sana towards Tigné area.

No parking will be allowed along the road parallel to National Road in Floriana leading to the Sunday market.

The Ta’ Qali area should be avoided between 9 and 11.30 a.m. and Attard should be avoided between 9.30 a.m. and noon. Blata l-Bajda and Portes-des-Bombes should be avoided between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.; Pietà, Msida and Gżira waterfront should be avoided between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and Sliema ferries should be avoided between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Marine biology course

The Biology Department at the University of Malta will be running a new course on marine biology that will be open to the public and students who are not reading for a biology degree.

The new course - Introduction to Marine Biology - consists of seven two-hour sessions and two field visits. It starts on March 14 and will be held at the Department of Biology between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. It carries two ECTS credits for University students and other participants will be given a certificate of attendance.

Volunteering conference

As part of the European flagship project on volunteering, the National Council of Women, the Commission on Domestic Violence, Nature Trust Malta and the National Youth Council will hold the final conference on Strengthening And Encouraging Volunteering – The Way Forward on March 9 between 8.30 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. at The Westin Dragonara Resort, St Julians.
