After having seen the splendid restoration of the Citadel in Gozo, it is indeed a shame to see a total shambles right outside the main gate.

The habit of throwing rubbish and waste from any building site over the nearest wall or onto an adjoining land seems to have stuck, even in the case of this prestigious project.

What is now an improvised car park complete with a dirt track, garbage, building debris and large concrete blocks could easily be turned into a landscaped parking area worthy of this popular and unique attraction, which presently looks incomplete.

One wonders whether littering laws are enforced since the mess is there for all to see and its provenance quite obvious.

Hopefully, my next visit there will be preceded by a transformation of this area, which, at present, is in a shameful state for both tourists and locals to witness. Surely after the substantial restoration costs, it would be a pittance to remove this eyesore. It will only take a matter of weeks to complete the job.
