Looking across from my home in Senglea I cannot help but feel very envious at all the work that is going on in Vittoriosa. The idea of the arch has certainly helped to complete the jigsaw of the fortification around the city. Oh how I dream about one day in the future when Minister George Pullicino visits Senglea to inspect restoration and regeneration work; alas for now it is just a dream.

Looking closely at the idea of the arch, I wonder if maybe it is not too late for Renzo Piano to visit the site at Vittoriosa. With a little bit of tinkering he can surely also incorporate a similar idea at the entrance of our World Heritage City of Valletta. Even if an arch were to be used only by pedestrians it would enhance the entrance and would certainly avoid just having a nondescript opening. There is enough height and width available, therefore, if it were to be built the access would not be obstructed.

I am also keeping my fingers crossed with regard to the Triton Fountain. In its current location it provides a very pleasing sight when looking out of Valletta.

The idea of just an open space in the distance would never appeal to anyone other than the person whose idea it is.

The cost of moving such an artistic monument is extremely high but most importantly is the fear that if moved the fountain would be damaged and lost forever.
