Contemporary dance company DanceWorks will be presenting its second project, Alternate Realities, at the MITP theatre, in Valletta this weekend.
The one-hour long production features 12 established dancers who will perform to the choreography of Pamela Kerr, Diane Portelli, Theresa Lungaro Mifsud and Yasmine Nuvoli.
Dorian Mallia, from Moveo Dance Company, will also feature as a guest choreographer.
DanceWorks was established last year as a new dance company affiliated to The Dance Workshop when it had successfully staged its debut production Return to Innocence.
Alternate Realities explored the theme of “parallel realities where, as individuals, we are constantly living our own personal existence which sometimes seems to co-exist with hypothetical or fictional realities that are known only to ourselves”, said Ms Kerr.
“In last year’s project, we explored a quote by Woody Allen in which he had wondered what it would have been like to live life in reverse.
“We can safely say this year’s theme of Alternate Realities is a continuation of last year’s because, while both deal with life and the way we live, we are exploring the added dimension of a secondary, parallel set of life situations,” she added.
Alternate Realities is accompanied by a musical score featuring works by Vivaldi, Mum, Thom Heinreich, Roger Molls and Giovanni Sollima, among others.
The performance on Saturday starts at 8.30pm.There will also be two shows on Sunday, at 6.30pm and 8.30pm.
