Reference is made to Joseph Xuereb’s letter entitled ‘Air Malta’s Gozo office being closed down’ (The Sunday Times, January 22).

Air Malta is currently undergoing a major restructuring exercise which involves changes in the way it operates.

Unfortunately, at times some measures seem to be difficult and not universally popular, but in the longer term they will be healthier for Air Malta in becoming a sustainable airline.

The restructuring plan is not only aimed at re-organising operations but, most importantly, will make the company more efficient.

In this regard, the company is also taking steps to tend to customer’s needs through the call centre and online services, which are of course available to customers in Gozo. Travel agencies in Gozo will also be happy to serve Air Malta’s customers.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Air Malta team in Gozo for their hard work over many years.
