Air Malta announced yesterday it is making arrangements to send a technical delegation to Tripoli and Benghazi next week to assess the situation at the airports in these cities.

The delegation will be meeting senior airport officials and carrying out audits to assert their operational conditions, the airline said in a statement last night.

The Air Malta team will include individuals from the airline’s commercial, security, ground services, flight operations and engineering sections.

This visit follows a meeting between Air Malta’s chief executive Peter Davies and the provisional Libyan Transport Minister Anwar El Feitori last week during the signing of the agreement between Libyan and Nato officials on the establishment of air corridors to be used for civil aircraft.

Air Malta said it is closely working with the Maltese government and Libyan officials to facilitate travel arrangements and restart flights to Libya as soon as possible.

Since it is likely that operations will first start to Benghazi, Air Malta drew attention to the importance of facilitating the visa issuance process from that city.
