Air Malta and Sky Gourmet will be helping the Breast Care Support Group Europa Donna Malta during October, which is breast cancer awareness month.

Cabin crew will be distributing pink ribbons and collecting donations from passengers to help the Maltese charity in raising awareness and funds. Last year, €3,275 were collected from this campaign.

The donations collected will go towards the printing of communication material to encourage women to choose healthy food and to exercise – two important factors to lower the risk of breast cancer.

Gertrude Abela, on behalf of the group, thanked Air Malta and said it was only through the generosity of people and organisations such as the airline that the group could continue helping and supporting the community.

The Breast Care Support Group is a voluntary non-profit-making NGO and has been active since 1989. Its mission is to raise awareness and support patients and families passing through the trauma of breast cancer.

Throughout the year the group works very hard to organise awareness campaigns and holds talks in schools and at the workplace.

The group operates a 24/7 support line which handles a large number of calls throughout the year, and offers a one-to-one counselling service.
