While we all appreciate that, over the past years, the standard of driving by the regular bus drivers and the service provided has improved dramatically, the hop on/hop off service seems to have inherited the arrogant driving mentality of some of the old bus drivers; unless they are the same drivers who used to run and dominate the public bus service.

These drivers make it their business to stop in the middle of the road to allow passengers to get on/off when the bus stop bays are totally empty and then decide to pull out into oncoming traffic without looking while also creating unnecessary traffic jams with frustrated drivers blowing their car horns. This has become the norm and everyday occurrence.

Such behaviour is a very poor advert to our visitors who frequently describe them as Malta’s kamikazes. It is highly visible in the Buġibba Square and the Suncrest Hotel and Qawra Palace Hotel areas, where they are dominating the traffic flow to suit their individual driving needs. I wonder if anyone is dedicated to supervise this disservice of unruly driving on our public roads. Or do we allow this curse to grow further?
