I will definitely not take the libellous claim made by Laurence Mizzi (Progressive MPs Who Are Now An Embarrassment, October 25), linking my views in favour of divorce and gay rights with abortion lying down.
I have never been, am not and will never be in favour of any form of abortion whatsoever. There are no ifs and buts: this is, for me, a question of absolute certainty and a principled pro-life position.
A very similar claim had already been raised by Austin Bencini in The Times’ sister paper a couple of months ago about Joseph Muscat and myself when the divorce issue started being debated. It seems that the same fear campaign, which failed so miserably on the divorce issue, will be utilised again on the issue of gay rights! Mr Mizzi might take pride in having as leader of his party a person who repeatedly voted against the introduction of divorce (and, therefore, against the will of the majority of the electorate) and, undoubtedly, shares with him the same viewpoints on the various “progressive issues”.
I am sure that Lawrence Gonzi is not the only person in the Nationalist Party who shares Mr Mizzi’s anti-gay views. I am sure that the GonziPN coterie, which hijacked the Nationalist Party, is as much against gay rights as it was dead set against the introduction of divorce.
Thank God I am in the Labour Party!
