On May 16, I read about the death of George Cutajar, a well-known lawyer as well as a social/political activist.

He was a ‘man of steel’ within the Nationalist Party ranks during the unfor-tunate dark days of the Labour government when democracy was at its lowest.

He wholeheartedly defended the rule of law and was a champion of victimized persons who were threatened with violence and discrimination.

Regretfully, like many others, he was for some time sidelined by the same party for which he fought tooth and nail to allow it to govern the country in a new era of Maltese politics.

It was a pleasure to note the statement made by the Nationalist Party expressing appreciation and extending condolences to his wife, children and family.

May he rest in peace.
