An estimated 900 tourists make enquiries at one of the Malta Tourism Authority's five tourist information centres every day, excluding those who simply collect brochures.
The figure was released as the authority yesterday opened its sixth centre at Valletta Waterfront, which is visited by more than half a million passengers a year.
Statistics issued by the port operator Viset show that 153,646 passengers set foot at Valletta Waterfront between January and May, 53 per cent more than in the same period last year.
Information centres already exist at the MTA's office in Valletta, at the airport, Gozo, Mellieħa and Mdina and more are expected to be opened in St Julians, Vittoriosa and St Paul's Bay.
