During this Jubilee Year of Mercy with its motto, Merciful Like the Father, the Mdina Cathedral will join the universal Church in the celebration of 24 Hours for the Lord.

Churches around the world have been asked, where possible, to dedicate a full 24 hours to the Sacrament of Reconciliation, ensuring the initiative coincides with Eucharistic adoration.

The special time will take place at St Paul’s Catheral in Mdina tomorrow and Saturday. Eucharistic adoration will be held at the Chapel of Blessed Sacrament from 4.15pm while Reconciliation will be held in the Chapel of the Holy Cross until 5.45pm on Saturday.

The Cathedral will remain open all the time.

In Rome, Pope Francis will preside at a penitential celebration, “a celebration of forgiveness”, in St Peter’s Basilica in order to place the Sacrament of Reconciliation at the centre of the Church’s mission of the New Evangelisation.

During Lent, Fr Philip Cutajar OFM Cap will be giving talks following the 6pm Sunday Mass (at about 6.40pm). These are being held for those finding it difficult to attend Lenten practices being held during the week.
