The number of illegal immigrants who landing in Malta in the past 10 years amounted to 16,341. Of these, 1,433 were children and youths aged up to 18.

Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi gave the information in reply to a parliamentary question by Labour MP Helena Dalli.

He said the largest number of migrants were Somali.

No figures were given on the number of migrants still in Malta.
