The number of surgeries carried out at Mater Dei Hospital in the first three months of this year was 11,289, Health Minister Godfrey Farrugia said in Parliament yesterday.

Answering a question by Nationalist MP Joseph Cassar, he said there had been 3,896, 3,760 and 3,633 in January, February and March respectively

They included complex major operations, intermediate, major, major plus, minor and unspecified.
