A Gozitan man was yesterday charged with trying to run over a policeman with his truck after getting into an argument over access to a road during a village feast.

Gregory Stellini, 54, from Sannat was fined for trying to drive through a road that was closed to traffic because of the village feast and he engaged Police Constable Savio Vassallo in an argument, sources said. The prosecution is alleging that he then drove in the direction of the policeman.

Mr Stellini is pleading not guilty to attacking the officer, disobeying orders, refusing to give his particulars, swearing in public, driving dangerously and littering.

Magistrate Joanne Vella Cuschieri granted him bail against a personal guarantee of €3,000.
