A father-of-two has been charged with attempting to assault his former wife’s lover inside the Qawra police station on Friday.

Alexander Maggi, 46, from Ħamrun was accused of attempting to attack Mario Borg and resisting arrest when four policemen tried to restrain him.

Before Magistrate Audrey Demicoli, the court heard how Mr Borg saw Mr Maggi and, suspecting trouble, sprinted to the Qawra police station for protection. Mr Maggi entered the station and there allegedly tried to assault Mr Borg.

Mr Maggi pleaded not guilty and was granted bail against a deposit of €250 and a €1,000 personal guarantee.

Earlier this year, Mr Maggi was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment after he was found guilty of assaulting Mr Borg and his son, Derrick.

His appeal against the decision is still pending.
