The 1577 (Government Property Division) website states, among others, that it is prohibited to block a public road in such a way as to prevent free access by the public.

Now, through this newspaper we residents would like to ask: Can the Government Property Division explain the following stalemate?

Triq it-Tiben in Swieqi should lead straight through to Triq il-Qasam. In fact it does not, for the simple reason that someone has built a “temporary” wall right across the street, close to the exit in Triq il-Qasam. It is literally blocking public property, is it not? This wall is immediately behind the premises of the Swieqi local council.

Now that is interesting.

Can the Government Property Division, or the local council, or anyone else, really, kindly explain why this wall has been allowed to stand for a number of years? Is this irregular or not?

When is this irregularity going to be cleared? It is of great inconvenience to one and all, excluding, naturally, the person/s who had found it necessary to erect this in the first place!

It would appear that the local council is unable to solve this, so it must be the Government Property Division. So, GPD, please get this blockage in our public road, Triq it-Tiben, removed. Should it take years to act upon? It is blocking the circulation of traffic in the area besides being a considerable inconvenience. Traffic management here in Swieqi is bad enough as it is and this blockage is certainly helping to make matters worse still.

Law enforcement please.
