Labour had not yet learnt that politics should be built on truth, Nationalist Party deputy leader Simon Busuttil said yesterday.

In the 2008 general election, the Labour Party had said that a Nationalist government would mean the end of free healthcare.

Time proved this was a lie, he told a PN activity in Luqa.

The PL electoral programme put Malta’s finances at risk. If there ever were a risk of no longer having free healthcare, this was under a Labour Administration, Dr Busuttil said.

The PN had a vision and clear direction while the PL did not know where it was heading and was not built on values. The past few days showed that the PL had problems with its value system, he said, referring to the interview with former Labour deputy leader Anġlu Farrugia, who said Labour was getting uncomfortably close to contractors.

Dr Busuttil also mentioned the leaked recording in which the General Workers’ Union’s general secretary, Tony Zarb, is heard making controver-sial comments.

Dr Busuttil said the PL now pretended to be Nationalist and even tried to copy the PN electoral programme. But where was the true Labour?

“Between the true and the fake you must choose the original... the original is the Nationalist Party where you know where you stand. Only the original comes with a guarantee, fakes don’t,” he said.

Dr Busuttil was speak-ing after candidates contesting in the Luqa district addres-sed those present.

The Nationalist candidates included Antoine Borg, Ryan Callus, Therese Comodini Cachia, Albert Fenech, Caroline Galea, Peter Micallef, Philip Mifsud and Clyde Puli.
