HIBERNIANS 4 MOSTA 0

Hibernians completed the rout of second-bottom Mosta to the tune of four goals to return to the summit of the table.

The first goal netted by Gilmar inside the first eight minutes did little to help their almost desperate cause. In their first incursion inside the Blues half, Gilmar unleashed a tremendous 25-metre scorcher which whizzed into the corner of the net past a helpless Yenz Cini.

Gilmar’s eight-minute goal presented his team with the start his clan needed. A Brazilian’s short free-kick was flicked on by Clayton Failla to Jorginho after 20 minutes to enable the striker to dink it past Cini via a deflection by Heron Guilhermino.

On the half hour mark, Bjorn Kristensen scored with a remarkable shot from the halfway line with the ball bouncing over the onrushing Cini despite Jurgen Degarbiel’s failure to make contact as he arrived in the six-yard box.

Hibernians’ upper hand remained pronounced after the interval. Eight minutes into the second half, Marcelo Dias squared for Gilmar who slotted the ball past the advancing Cini.

Enjoying a four-goal cushion, Hibs were happy to sit back and control Mosta’s initiative. In a rare sight of goal at the other end, late in the match, saw Romero Cesar shoot high over the bar.

Only a miracle can divert Zsolt Hornyak’s course away from trouble. Hibernians’ sights by contrast, are set on much higher targets.
