Ħamrun Spartans 1; Gżira United: 3

Gzira United collected three precious points after beating Ħamrun Spartans 3-1.

Courtesy of this victory, the Maroons have now leapfrogged St Andrews, pushing themselves further away from the danger zone.

On the other hand, Ħamrun failed to resume where they left off last week when they held Hibernians to a 3-3 draw, as their performance today far below their average.

The Spartans broke the deadlock after five minutes when defender Philip Chircop took advantage of Jurgen Borg's error.

Gżira managed to restore parity just before the half-time whistle, when Andrew Cohen flighted a cross into the box, on which Louis Zome connected, putting the ball into the net.

After missing a flurry of chances, super-sub Carlos Reyna put Gżira ahead for the first time as he put the ball into the back of net after the Ħamrun goalkeeper failed to clear away the danger.

In a desperate attempt to level terms, Ħamrun conceded the third goal when Jacob Borg capitalised after a well-engineered counter-attack from the Maroons.
