ST ANDREWS 0; FLORIANA 0

An unimpressive Floriana side conceded two precious points in their quest to remain in contention for title, as they were held to a goalless draw by St Andrews.

As the game moved on, St Andrews grew in confidence and even seemed to be more effective than their opponents, particularly after 37 minutes when Paz’s corner swerved dangerously around the far post but Andrè Scicluna cleared the ball before it crossed the line.

Floriana started the second period brightly almost scoring after a swift break in the 47th minute.  But luck was clearly not on Floriana's side as, Varela's header, from Scicluna's cross crashed against the crossbar and Samb headed the rebound goalwards but was diverted to a corner by McKay.

Luxol were displaying an exceptional defensive organisation which saw them deploy the offside game to perfect much to the dismay of the Floriana forwards.

The Greens were growing increasingly frustrated and Tedesco looked to add more firepower upfront by roping in Mario Fontanella.

They threatened seriously in the 72nd minute. First they had Pisani’s cross-shot blocked by a defender. Then the rebound went to Ryan Camenzuli whose fierce rising shot went just wide.

Six minutes from time, shouts of ‘penalty’ emanated from the Floriana section when Samb fell to the ground after being challenged by substitute Felix Udoh but Kosovo referee Genc Nuza was unmoved.

Pisani spread havoc in the Saints defence but his cross was saved in two attempts by Jake Galea, the St Andrews goalkeeper.

At the death, Fontanella's cross from the right almost did the trick but Bon Won Che anticipated Samb and cleared the ball.

At the final whistle of the efficient Nuza, Floriana probably realised that their endeavours were too minimal to justify maximum points.
