Last week I was passing by a private school in Pembroke and watched a warden giving a ticket to a parent who had just picked up his child from school. The parent, who was already in the car must have parked his car for just three minutes to rush and pick up his toddler. However, if parents park their car for say 10 minutes, it would then justify a ticket.
It is well known that it is very difficult to find parking near most schools, and therefore parents, who most probably have to come from work to pick up their children, quickly stop by and pick up their children from just inside the school gate.
All children are picked up (or dropped off) in about 15 minutes. If a warden happens to be there, he can actually help to see that the area is safe and also help ease the tension of parents and not be there to increase the tension of parents, who are rushing in and out of the schools to pick/drop off their children.
It is very uncaring for a warden to pass by these schools to give tickets to sitting ducks.
I urge the wardens’ authority to give instructions to wardens to be considerate and not give tickets in such situations and actually help when they can.
