For the second month running and the seventh time since inception the VAT lottery has yielded “lucky” winners by not having just one receipt but two and at, on one occasion, three receipts drawn in the same draw.

Considering that tens of millions of VAT receipts participate in this monthly lottery it takes a brilliant mathematician to compute the odds of this phenomenon recurring on a regular basis.

After the August draw produced a double winner I personally decided that I had had enough of collecting, stamping and delivering VAT receipts to participate in this lottery.  The September draw produced yet another double winner and my decision to stop taking part has been vindicated.

Back in 2003 and soon after its inception 11 people were charged with being involved in “fixing”the draw.
