Tennis: Andy Murray’s thigh problem will not stop him playing a charity exhibition match today. Murray picked up a thigh strain during his Davis Cup singles victory over Guido Pella on Sunday but reports said yesterday he will not pull out of the charity event at Glasgow’s Hydro Arena. The world number two will face Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov, with proceeds going to UNICEF and a local charity in north Glasgow called Young People’s Futures. Murray is then due to play tournaments in Beijing, Shanghai and Vienna before ending the season with the Paris Masters and the ATP World Tour Finals.

Snooker: Kyren Wilson’s defence of his Shanghai Masters title has ended at the first hurdle, as he crashed out against Michael Holt on Day Two of the tournament. Holt took the opening two frames of the match and looked set to be moving three ahead, when he extracted ten consecutive fouls from Wilson. However, the Warrior turned the frame around to trail 2-1. The Hitman then pulled away again and moved one frame from victory, before Wilson hit back with a contribution of 101. Holt responded in turn with a 101 break of his own to run out a 5-2 winner.

Motor Racing: NASCAR was hit with a $500 million lawsuit accusing the auto racing body of racial discrimination for preventing black-owned teams and drivers from competing, including in the Sprint Cup Series. Terrance Cox and his company, Diversity Motorsports Racing LLC, filed a lawsuit last weekend in US district court in Manhattan against NASCAR, its parent company, International Speedway Corp, and 18 teams, according to court records. The plaintiffs are also seeking an injunction requiring the defendants to “fully integrate the African-American community.”

Ice Hockey: Germany’s Leon Draisaitl potted the overtime winner as Team Europe edged Czech Republic 3-2 to close in on a spot in the World Cup of Hockey semi-finals, in Toronto. Team Europe (2-0), cobbled together with players from eight smaller hockey playing nations and coached by Canada-born Ralph Krueger, have been the tournament’s surprise package and followed their upset of the US with another victory to sit atop Group A.

Volleyball: Five players from the Cuban national team were found guilty yesterday of aggravated rape of a woman while they were in Finland in July for a World League tournament prior to the Olympics. The Finnish district court charged six men with the crime, which took place at the hotel where the team was staying in the city of Tampere. One was found not guilty. The court sentenced four of the men to five years in prison, and the fifth to three-and-a-half years.
