A unique wine and fine dining experience named Salute! promises to satiate many wine and food lovers’ appetite for the ultimate al fresco dining.
Taking place over three nights only at the world-class venue that is Valletta’s Saluting Battery, with magnificent views of the Grand Harbour, this event sets out to be a true highlight in Malta’s culinary diary. The dates to pencil in are August 5 to 7 from 7pm until 11.30pm.
This new, comfortably and fully seated open-air wine and dine experience coincides with and forms part of Delicata’s 15th Classic Wine Festival held at Valletta’s Upper Barrakka Gardens.
Salute! is organised by the Delicata winery in collaboration with Island Caterers’ team, executive chefs Ramon Muscat and Robert Spiteri and their experienced kitchen brigade. They have put a lot of thought and energy in the planning of what will undoubtedly be a sumptuous bill of fare, consisting of four plated dishes, each one as mouth-watering as the next, plus petits fours and coffee to finish.
Each course is accompanied by a perfectly matching glass of wine chosen by Delicata’s wine experts. The wines to be served are: sparkling Girgentina Frizzante, which has received extra special care by means of laborious bâtonnage (lees-stirring) from award-winning winemaker Matthew Delicata; his flagship Gran Cavalier Chardonnay, made from grapes coming from two definite vineyard parcels only; the elegant Cabernet Sauvignon and fortified sweet Moscato, both in Malta’s most acclaimed Grand Vin de Hauteville range. The vegetarian menu, conversely, is complemented by the suitable Medina Grenache Cabernet Rosé and the plush Grand Vin de Hauteville Viognier.
Contrary to what one might expect perhaps, the price is not at all excessive, serving at €45 per person.
Seating is limited and event tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
