A woman’s swimming trip took an unexpected turn on Sunday when a shark bit her. The 23-year-old woman was swimming at a Boca Raton beach in Florida, when a 60cm long nurse shark latched onto her forearm. The shark would not let go of the woman.
The shark seemed to be stuck. When paramedics arrived, the shark was dead but still firmly attached to the woman's arm.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital with the shark hanging from her arm. The woman reportedly stayed calm during the incident and wasn’t bleeding badly.
A snorkeler at the beach claimed he saw a group holding the shark from its tail.
"They were messing with it... It wouldn’t bite them if they hadn’t been messing with it,” Nate Pachter, 11, told the Sun Sentinel.
Nurse sharks are common in the waters of Florida and can grow up to 4 meters in length.
