Andrè Schembri was a late substitute as Omonia Nicosia maintained their Europa League pursuit with a convincing 3-0 win at Anorthosis Famagusta in the Cypriot First Division on Saturday.

The Malta forward, scorer of a brace the previous week, replaced Irish striker Cilian Sheridan, who netted Omonia’s third goal, with nine minutes to go.

Omonia remained third in the Championship Pool on 61 points but have increased their lead on fourth-placed Apollon to three points after the latter could only manage a 2-2 draw with AEK Larnaca.

Schembri will be hoping to make a return to Omonia’s starting formation tomorrow when they face AEK Larnaca in the second leg of their Cyprus Cup semi-final. The first leg in Larnaca ended in a 0-0 draw.

Steve Borg played for 76 minutes as Aris Limassol cruised to a 3-0 victory over Ermis at the Tsirion Stadium.

The Malta defender retained his place in Aris’s starting formation but made way for Giorgios Malekkidis 14 minutes from time with the home side already enjoying a three-goal lead.

Aris Limassol remain second in the Relegation Pool on 38 points, just two adrift of city rivals AEL.

Sam Magri’s Dover Athletic could not go beyond a 1-1 home draw against Grimsby Town on Saturday.

Magri again played the full 90 minutes as Dover had to come from behind to take a point. They stayed third in the standings and remain in contention for a promotion play-off spot.

Malta midfielder Rowen Muscat was not in the 18-man squad as Pavia claimed a 2-0 win over Reggiana at the Pietro Fortunati Stadium on Saturday.

The result lifted Pavia to seventh on 48 points, eight adrift of third-placed AlbinoLeffe who occupy the last promotion play-off spot.

Malta defender Zach Muscat played the full match as Akragas lost 2-1 at Foggia in a Lega Pro Division C match last night.
