Young Stars’ Mark Camilleri hit the post on 11 minutes and soon after, Rabat were kept afloat when Ian Azzopardi produced a point-blank save.

The Stars continued to exert pressure and it paid off on 27 minutes when Edward Hughes fired them 1-0 ahead with a beauty from an acute angle.

Rabat did not avail themselves of two penalty corner awards around the 30th-minute mark.

Half-time came with Young Stars holding on to their one-goal advantage.

The second half developed into a ding-dong affair with spaces now opening up to swift counter-attacks though defences remained on top.

Rabat, always dependent on their swift counter-attacks, caught the Young Stars’ defence napping.

On 58 minutes, Rabat equalised when Charlot Antonelli shot home after he was first to react to a rebound off the Young Stars custodian’s pads from a goalbound Robert Aquilina effort.

This stung Young Stars.

They piled the pressure which saw Camilleri fire home on 68 minutes from a penalty corner action to give his team a narrow 2-1 victory.

After wrapping up the title in their previous encounter, Qormi Pasta Poiatti extended their lead to five points following a 3-1 win over The LightShop Hotsticks.

Qormi failed to profit from three penalty corners by the 17th minute but, on being awarded their first penalty corner on 25 minutes, Hotsticks’ Lukas Plaehn hit home to put his team 1-0 up.

Four minutes later, Thomas Degiovanni blasted home from the top of the D to level for Qormi.

Qormi went ahead two minutes into the second half when they were awarded a penalty stroke and Juan Sarcia drove home from the spot.

On 48 minutes, Ryan George just missed drawing Hotsticks level as his attempt flew marginally wide.

Qormi were awarded another penalty stroke in the 54th minute.

Sarcia once again drove home from the spot to seal Qormi’s 3-1 victory.
