The Muslim community in Malta has condemned yesterday's bombings in Brussels.

"On behalf of the Muslim community we condemn these criminal coward attacks which not only targeted European innocent people but they also targeted Islam and Muslims in Europe who also are victims of terrorism," Imam Mohammad Elsadi said in a statement.

"The terrorists by their barbaric acts are tarnishing the true peaceful image of Islam and exposing Muslims in Europe to hatred, injustice and sufferings.

"They aim at destructing the long sincere efforts for integration of Muslims in Europe and the peaceful coexistence of different cultures.

"We consider any threat to the security of Europe as a threat to all Muslims who live in Europe. Any terrorist act against Europe is assassinating our dreams of security and stability in the European countries and the future of our children.

"On behalf of the Muslim community we extend our sincere condolences to the families of the victims. We wish the injured a quick recovery and express our solidarity with the Belgian people.

"We would also like to express our sympathy with the family of Mr Lorenzo Vella and we wish him a speedy recovery and a safe return to Malta.

"May Allah help us all to eliminate terrorism and live in peace all over the world," the Imam said.
