The Central Bank of Malta has issued a €2 coin commemorating the 30th anniversary of the EU flag. This coin is one of a series that have been issued in all the eurozone countries during 2015. All the coins, regardless of the country of issue, have a common design created by Georgios Stamatopoulos of the Bank of Greece. The winning design was selected through an online public vote.

This is the fourth collective issue of a commemorative €2 coin from eurozone countries since 2007 and will be the third issue for Malta, which adopted the euro in 2008.

The Maltese commemorative coins, which were minted by the Royal Dutch Mint, are issued in circulation quality in rolls of 25 coins each. The coins feature the mintmark of the Royal Dutch Mint as well as the mint-master’s mark.

The Central Bank of Malta will be contacting all those who have placed their orders to inform them of their allocation and the dates on which they can collect their coins. The coins are available for collection from the Malta Coins Distribution Centre at the main building of the Central Bank of Malta. For further information, the public is kindly requested to contact the Malta Coins Distribution Centre by e-mail at mcdc@centralbankmalta.org or by calling (+356) 2550 6007/6013.
