All 75 Volvo cars used in two recent summits in Malta were auctioned this morning, raising €400,200 towards the Malta Community Chest Fund.

The cars were used to transports dignitaries during the EU-Migration summit and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

The starting sale price of 20 Volvo S60 saloon cars was €30,500, or €11,500 below the normal selling price. The SUV XC60 had a starting price of €32,500, instead of the normal €44,000 sale price.

Those auctioning for the car were informed the identity of the leader who rode in them before making their bid. President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca thanked those present at the Malta Fairs and Convention Centre at Ta' Qali.

The starting price total will go to car importers GasanZammit, which signed a sponsorship agreement with the government.

The same system was used following the 2005 Malta CHOGM when BMW cars were employed.
