A Libyan man has apologised for making a scene in court last week when he yelled 'Allah hu akbar' and accused the court of forming part of the mafia.

The man, who had been arraigned for a bail contravention, broke into a frenzy when he was informed that his lawyer Roberto Montalto could not make it to the hearing.

He had alleged that his human rights were violated and he had been beaten up by the police.

This morning, his lawyer Dr Montalto said that all declarations made by his client were untrue and were being retracted.

The lawyer told Magistrate Gabriella Vella that he was unable to attend that sitting due to other duties.

He said he has seen the footage mentioned by his client of the alleged beating, but they had decided not to take the matter any further.

His client filed a guilty plea for the bail violation.

The case has been deferred to tomorrow for sentencing, and will be handed down in light of separate court proceedings that the man is facing which will also be concluded tomorrow.

Inspector Joseph Busuttil prosecuted.
