Contrary to the claims made by Carol Gatt in her Talking Point (October 26), the burqa has nothing to do with the Islamic religion. It is only a cultural garment imported from the primitive parts of the Islamic world.

There is no religious request to don the burqa and no evidence in the Koran to support the wearing of the garment.

In the UK, Muslims themselves are campaigning to rid Britain of this archaic tribal piece of clothing.

The burqa is also forbidden from being worn during pilgrimages to Mecca. So if it is banned from Islam’s holiest site, why on earth is it required on the streets of Malta?
