Six Croatian football hooligans who caused almost €6,000 worth of damage in a rampage in Paceville were handed a suspended sentence today after having paid for all the damage they caused.

Magistrate Josette Demicoli sentenced them to two years imprisonment suspended for four years. As she was explaining that the jail term would only become effective if they committed another crime in the next four years, one of the men replied: “Don’t worry, we have no intention of ever coming back to Malta.”

Ivan Janjetic, 21, Denis Danilovic, 25, Dalen Cekada, 25, Davor Andelkovic, 32, Marijo Homdak, 38 and Igor Valec, 26 were involved in a brawl with a group of Serbs early on Tuesday.

The court heard how the men and began hurling tables, chairs, bottles, glasses and anything they could find. Almost €6,000 worth of damage was caused of several Paceville establishments. One particular take-out shop had all its chairs and tables thrown across the street.

Police Inspector Trevor Micallef prosecuted while lawyer Joseph Ellis appeared for the men.
