Norway midfielder Alexander Tettey is confident his side can end Italy’s 38-match unbeaten run at home in today’s Group H game and secure a place at Euro 2016.

Per-Mathias Hogmo’s men go into their final qualifying game on the back of Saturday’s 2-0 home triumph over Malta – a result that assured Norway of a play-off spot and lifted the Nordic side to second place.

They are two points adrift of pool leaders Italy, who have secured their ticket to next year’s tournament in France.

Heading into the game in Rome, Norway are two points clear of Croatia, who visit Malta.

“We are going there to win,” Tettey told reporters.

“Our only focus is on this game.”

If Croatia were to clinch three points in their last qualifier, then only a victory over Italy will see Norway qualify directly. Croatia beat Norway 5-1 in March and have a superior head-to-head record against the Norwegians.

Norwich midfielder Tettey said: “We will go there (to Rome) with a battle plan to beat them. I hope that with Italy having already qualified for the European Championship, they will not be so determined against us.”

Norway have won three of their four qualifiers away from home.

Moreover, they have kept a clean sheet in their last four qualifiers while scoring five goals in the process.

“We travel to Italy determined to keep a clean sheet again,” goalkeeper Orjan Nyland said.

“We know we have already secured a play-off spot and we will play without pressure. We have different options and nothing is better than that.”

Victory tonight would see Norway finish as group winners while a draw at the Stadio Olimpico would be enough for Italy to finish top.

The Azzurri won 3-1 at Azerbaijan on Saturday to assure themselves of a spot in next year’s tournament in France.

The result in Baku saw Italy score three goals in a game for the first time under Antonio Conte.

The Italians are unbeaten in qualifying and have won their last two home games.

“With Antonio Conte in charge, there is no room for relaxation,” Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci said.

“There is no risk that we will slow down against Norway. This is the right mentality because we always go out on the pitch ready to win.”

Conte, whose side has given away six goals while scoring 14 in nine qualifiers, wants a strong finish from his players.

“We need to give continuity to our performances,” he said.

“We will honour the qualifying phase by playing a great game against Norway in Rome. We want to clinch three points on Tuesday (today).”

Conte, without the services of suspended midfielder Daniele De Rossi, is expected to start Eder and Stephan El Shaarawy in attack.
