The Mrieħel industrial zone will be transformed into a business and commercial hub through a public private partnership.

The government will be launching a masterplan to turn the derelict site into one aimed at attracting new investment through a foundation set up by the government and the private sector.

The Floriana botanic gardens will also be given a facelift through a project that will be launched next year.

Argotti and the surrounding gardens will be refurbished and turned into an environmental recreational centre.

Refurbishment plans are also in the offing for a historical site not far off – Fort St Elmo in Valletta.

Following the completion of restoration works on the upper part of the fort, the need was felt to regenerate the lower area of St Elmo.

The government will be publishing a request for proposals for the regeneration of lower St Elmo, which would not only restore the fort but also breathe new life in the site through activities led by the private sector.
