Naxxar Lions have parted ways with coach Stefano Grima after the team made a very disappointing start to the season.

Grima was promoted to first-team coach in the close season after serving as assistant to Jesmond Zerafa as part of a reshuffle that saw Naxxar Lions offload the majority of their key players to reduce costs after former president Dione Drago left his post.

Under Grima, Naxxar Lions have lost their opening seven Premier League games. Last weekend’s 5-1 hiding to newly-promoted side Pembroke Athleta was the final straw with the club committee, led by new president David Vella, deciding to relieve Grima of his duties.

Clive Mizzi, who has been out of work since leaving Tarxien Rainbows, is the favourite to replace Grima. Naxxar’s next league match is the derby against the high-flying Mosta on October 17.
