A Togolese man was granted bail today after being charged with resisting arrest.

The court heard how Djibril Ganiou, 34, was initially arrested after his Maltese partner sought police help because she was being threatened.

The woman, who appeared in court with a black eye, said that she had forgiven the accused and dropping charges against him.

Mr Ganiou, however, was accused of resisting police arrest by running away and spitting at the police.

The court granted him bail against €200 deposit and a personal guarantee of €2,000.
