Do you attend festivals regularly?

Yes, for the past four years.

Which festival did you attend this year?

Primavera Sound Festival at the Parc del Forum, Barcelona, Spain.

Why did you choose this particular one and was it your first time?

My girlfriend and I choose this festival every year for many reasons, including the fact that it is not a camping festival as we’re getting too old for that kind of thing. We love the city, the climate, the crowd, the music… the fact that it starts at 4.30pm and finishes at 6am, giving you the chance of experiencing the sunrise… and also the venue, which includes a massive area built on a port that doubles up as a beautiful park for afternoon sessions, some clubs and an auditorium.

The festival is announced as a three-day plus one free-for-all day event running from Wednesday to Saturday. But, in reality, it is a full week of music and anything art-related, starting off with gigs in the various clubs in the city from the Monday of the festival’s week.

Who were the main artists on the line-up?

This year ‘s biggest headliners were The Strokes, which also were the greatest disappointment. Other headliners included Interpol, The Black Keys, Alt-J, Underworld, Mac DeMarco, Julian Casablancas & Voidz, Patti Smith, Antony & the Johnsons, Damien Rice and Ride. However, among non-headliners were names such as Jose’ Gonzales, Run The Jewels, Caribou, Ratatat, DFA 1979, Diiv, Ariel Pink, Spiritualized, Chet Faker and Richie Hawtin. Something for everyone.

Which performance were you most looking forward to and why?

The Strokes, but, unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed by their performance. It seemed, and I am not the only one thinking that, that they were there exclusively for the money. Why? Well, it was one of the bands which marked my early 20s and had only seen live 15 years earlier, coincidentally in Barcellona too. Back then it was a blast, though.

If there was one thing you would change about the festival, this would be...?

I don’t think I would change anything, except maybe from the fact that it attracts a lot of northern Europeans which are extremely tall if they stand in front of you. I jest, I jest. The festival is brilliant the way it is. Well, maybe sort out some inevitable clashes, such as The Black Keys with Chet Faker.

Top highlight?

This year it definitely was Josè Gonzales’s intimate gig in the Auditorium, early in the afternoon of the second day. Followed by Jungle’s, Ratatat’s and Caribou’s performances at the Ray-Ban stage, probably the best stage of any festival in the world as it is a massive amphitheatre-like stage.

Something weird/funny you saw?

Definitely the controversial Antony & The Johnsons’ performance. The video on the massive screen behind him was… well, somewhat baffling. Outstanding voice, though.

How much ahead did you book?

Seven months, more or less, as soon as the first headliners were announced.

Did it meet expectations?

It exceeded them.

Chilling between acts.Chilling between acts.

Something you didn’t expect/you didn’t plan for?

Bumping into this Russian kid I had briefly spoken to the previous year in a Chvrches gig and taken a picture with. The odds were 1 in 170K. Amazing.

Your advice to those who think of going next year?

If you’d like a unique artistic experience, in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, sign up for Primavera. Although voted No.1 Festival on the Time Out magazine, it still keeps its sort of hipster and exclusive status. By the looks of it, they won’t give up that label easily.

Any plans for other festivals?

Not festivals, but following some of our favourite bands in their winter tours around Europe yes! We’ve already bought tickets, as they are such a bargain if you get them early. And we have already booked accommodation and flights for Primavera 2016, even though no line-up has been yet released. We don’t care. In Primavera we trust!
