The Opposition leader today expressed his regret with government special envoy Sai Mizzi Liang that although she had been in China for two years, she had not yet started to explore new sectors for foreign investment and how Maltese businesses could be helped to enter the Chinese market.

Simon Busuttil and a Nationalist Party delegation met Dr Mizzi Liang in Shanghai today, bringing to an end the delegation's official visit to China.

The PN again criticised Ms Mizzi Liang's appointment saying this reflected the nepotism Dr Muscat introduced in the past two-and-a-half years, with appointments and jobs being given to people only because they were close to the government to the detriment of people who could have been eligible and more deserving.

Foreign Affairs spokesman Tonio Fenech said that while the Maltese and Gozitan people had been paying Dr Mizzi Liang €13,000 a month, the lack of results was clear proof of the government's mismanagement.

The result of this was a bad, rather than good, advert for the country.

Dr Mizzi Liang was in Malta this week for the signing of an agreement between the government and Hwawei Technologies for the testing of 5G testing.

SAI MIZZI SPEAKS TO OPPOSITION LEADER ABOUT HER WORK IN ASIA

Meanwhile the government said in a statement that Dr Mizzi Liang gave an exposition of the work being carried out to attract investment from Asia to Malta.

She explained that her work was to focus on companies which could potentially be interested in investing in Malta, such as Huawei, the biggest telecommunications company in the world.

Dr Mizzi Liang said that more work was being done to attract more investment to Malta in various sectors and the results would be seen in the coming months.

Opposition leader cannot be taken seriously - PL

In a reply, the Labour Party said Dr Busuttil could not be taken seriously when he spoke about the promotion of investment in China.

For he had been against Chinese investment in the power station and it was now against the agreement with Huawei.

The Labour government was, on the other hand, showing that its work was being translated in concrete results for the country.

Rather than trying to do something beneficial for Malta during his stay in China, Dr Busuttil criticised Malta. The people judged by results, the PL said.
