The Nationalist Party this afternoon expressed concern that the planning authority breached its own policy for the benefit of a Jordanian company which was to be allowed to build on virgin, agricultural land.

In a statement, environment shadow minister Marthese Portelli and spokesman Ryan Callus said it was unexplainable how the authority’s CEO’s office decided, on its own, to turn an outside development zone site into one that was good for development. This was when the necessary studies had not been carried out.

It was obvious that the decision had already been taken and the studies which was being said would be held were fake.

It was also clear from what was said by the government and also Mepa that other sites were not being considered, the PN said.

The decision taken by the CEO’s office was irresponsible and prejudiced the application process.

The people deserved an authority which was there to serve all the people and for the benefit of future generations and not to serve as canvasser for the Labour government.

The Nationalist Party said it expected who took the decision to say whether they were made to and by whom.

It said that Mepa was the responsibility of the PM so even Joseph Muscat had to answer for the decision.
