The ‘incessant’ and ‘monotonous’ adjectives used to describe the noise of the cuqlajta (wooden ratchet) in Siġġiewi, in one of Darrin Zammit Lupi’s pictures (above), are just perfect.

I would just add another one though: egoistic. It was played repeatedly for hours including at the time when most elderly people in the village core tried to take their afternoon rest.

It should be considered noise pollution and it’s for the authorities to take note.
