Alternattiva Demokratika’s candidates for the Nadur and Qala council elections have pledged traffic-free town centres and more natural parks.

On the campaign trail in Gozo, AD chairman Arnold Cassola said yesterday its two candidates would also work towards transparency and accountability in the governance of Gozitan affairs.

The Green party will field environmentalist David Camilleri in Qala and farmer Toni Falzon in Nadur for the April 11 elections.

Prof. Cassola said AD councillors would support the national waste strategy plan for 2050, which aimed to reach a zero-waste society, by adopting localised waste management plans.

The candidates said they would encourage the Qala and Nadur councils to collaborate with the planning authority to develop sea water parks for children in the abandoned Ħondoq ir-Rummien quarry, in Qala and Ramlal-Ħamra, in Nadur.

“We propose to work together in our councils with the national authorities to create nature parks in the publicly-owned land of Iż-Żirka, in Qala and Il-Qortin Isopu, in Nadur,” Mr Camilleri said.

AD will field seven candidates in the forthcoming local elections.
